We spent a wonderful week at Warmth and Wonder. The barn itself is cosy, well-equipped and furnished in a lovely rustic style, in keeping with its natural surroundings. It is situated in glorious countryside, reached by meandering lanes, with magnificent views from the balcony terrace where you can enjoy stunning sunsets or a morning coffee. The hosts, Polly and Matt, have also included some great ideas in the visitor’s information book for places to visit, eat and gorgeous walks to do. There is also a thoughtfully curated shelf of books with links to these fascinating borderlands. As well as being able to wander freely around the 48 acres of hillside here, there are some fabulous walks; the one from the door up Merlin’s Hill is amazing, as are other walks in the Black Mountains, including Crib Y Gath, just a short car ride away. We also loved exploring the hidden valleys with their tiny churches; visiting the book town of Hay; stocking up at the fabulous local shop in Longtown, and enjoyed a meal in the nearby Carpenter’s Arms which felt like stepping back in time. If you are looking for somewhere to switch off from the often hectic pace of modern life, this is that place.
